The Central Weather Bureau comprises four Divisions, and the Research and Development Center, apart from the administration departments in its headquarters. In addition, the affiliates include: the Weather Forecast Center, the Meteorological Satellite Center, the Meteorological Information Center, the Seismological Center, the Meteorological Instruments Center, the Marine Meteorology Center, the Southern Region Weather Center, the Astronomical Observatory, twenty-five (25) weather stations, and four (4) weather radar stations, distinctively taking the responsibility for meteorological, seismological, and related marine and astronomical operations of the nation.

    • Marine Meteorology Center
      The scope of marine meteorology includes wind waves, tides, sea level variations, sea surface temperatures, coastal ocean currents, and air-sea interactions.
      1. Implementing an integrated marine observing system for measuring and monitoring near real-time coastal waves and currents, sea levels, and temperatures of the waters in the vicinity of the Island of Taiwan. Of which sea level measurement and coastal data buoy networks have been established.
      2. Building a calibration laboratory of acoustic water level sensors, establishing a deep ocean data buoy station, developing land-based remote sensing system of waves and currents via microwave and HF radars, and carrying out an automated ship observation system.
      3. Developing marine prediction systems. Multi-scale waves and sea level prediction infrastructures have been accomplished, sea surface temperature analysis scheme, multi-scale surge models, and multi-scale ocean current models are in progress.
      4. Issuing various marine forecasts such as sea temperature, sea levels, waves, and currents, at open sea, inshore, and coastal areas, for uses in recreation planning, fishery expansion, maritime navigation, marine emergency precaution, and search and rescue operations.
      5. Setting up nationwide marine database by collecting, compiling, and analyzing various marine data. The database system and marine meteorology information website infrastructure have been completed. Collecting both foreign and domestic marine data, developing data quality control method and database application software, stipulating appropriate data forms and tables for effective management, storing, and inquiry application are continuously proceeding.
      6. Developing more services and products and various circulation ways of marine meteorology, setting up oceanic Geographic Information System, improving services of providing nationwide marine information on the Internet which includes the most recent 36 hours near shore observation data, marine forecast information, marine model prediction animation, marine statistics chart, and marine data information index, etc.
      7. Enhancing marine meteorology information services, cooperating with the Tourism Bureau and Fishermen's association in installing large electronic billboard in harbor or coastal scenic area for displaying marine meteorology and safety information, setting standards for marine meteorology observation and statistics, periodically publishing annual report of marine meteorology observation data and the tide table, data providing upon application, marine information consulting, training, and public education.
